Yesterday by bike and today with hiking boots. Today we are exploring part of the island on foot.
It's a strange feeling to know that you're walking on rock that was deep under the seabed millions of years ago and still belongs to America. There are four places in the world where you can experience this phenomenon.
The free ferry takes us back to the mainland, but soon we'll call it a day.

Today starts the way the last day ended - grey, cloudy and wet. That means today is a driving day.
Luckily, we already know the Fv17 with its wonderful landscapes and have already enjoyed bright sunshine here. So for us it is not so bad that the rain and the low-hanging clouds do not want to reveal too much of the beautiful nature.
The journey is repeatedly interrupted by ferry crossings. There are four in total today and this variety makes the day's journey almost entertaining.
A few kilometers before the fifth ferry we call it a day and enjoy a delicious raclette to match the weather.

Long - short - very long! That's the short summary of our ferry trips today. And they are really fun in this beautiful weather.
The last ferry ride is new for us. We actually sail from Bodo to Moskenes, Lofoten by ferry and save a lot of kilometers and therefore also diesel. With the ferry card we travel everywhere for half price or even for free. Bodo-Moskenes (4 hour journey) costs us 48 francs!
At the Moskenes campsite, the pitches are allocated. After a nice chat with the two ladies at reception, we managed to get the last pitch with a view. Lucky us! It's always worth being nice!
Day route: Kvina - Moskenes

Hmm....raindrops don't even fit the weather forecast!
But we're taking it easy today anyway and the sun is shining until we set off around 11 a.m.
We also leisurely stroll through the day and encounter the many motorhomes, trucks and buses with humor.
As someone wrote on park4night - if you are looking for peace and quiet, Lofoten is the wrong place. And he is sooooo right.
We remember our first stays on the Lofoten Islands with almost a little sadness.
7 and 8 years.
But the overwhelming nature is still the same and on our hike Uttakleiv-Haukland Beach-Uttakleiv we are almost alone. Beautiful!
Tagesstrecke: Moskenes - Uttakleiv
Distance: 83 km
Average consumption: 9.4 liters

The clear night that had been forecast turned into a cloudy night pretty early on. So no northern lights!
And the announced day with lots of sunshine turned into a grey day covered in clouds and fog.
We continue to stroll through the Lofoten and this time we manage to drive out to Unstad. A beautiful bay. The two official parking spaces now cost 200 NOK. One of the spaces offers water/emissions and a toilet, the other has nothing. But there are also lots of vans, campers, rooftop campers and caravans here.
On the way, almost every parking bay next to the road is occupied and you read in all the relevant apps about the problem of "nature shitters", especially the toilet paper lying around and flying around is the biggest problem.
When will common sense finally prevail - before prohibition signs are put up everywhere!!!
We end our leisurely trip shortly after lunch. At this time of day, there is still a large selection of pitches at Hov Camping, but this changes dramatically until late in the evening.
We use the afternoon for a short hike. We discover many beautiful Scandinavian houses with wonderful views.
In the evening, we are sometimes speechless when we watch how some people squeeze themselves together, up to a meter apart, late at night.

I know it sounds almost boring, but we just keep on dawdling across the Lofoten Islands.
Unfortunately, the weather for the next few days doesn't look promising. In particular, heavy storm winds are forecast from Sunday onwards. Nevertheless, we turn off to Henningsvear and walk through this pretty town. It has really spruced itself up since our last visit.
In between, we take another look at the Northern Lights apps. We can't believe our eyes - the next night the activity is pretty high. From midnight onwards, a 5 is displayed!
So we need to find a place to stay overnight with a clear view to the north.
Laukvik - and here the cloud cover is also expected to decrease dramatically from midnight. So let's get going!
We're already there at around 1 p.m. Time for lunch.
But first, work. There are actually two washing machines and a tumble dryer available for free use.
The washing machines are quickly put into operation and after dinner we can feed the tumble dryer. So the afternoon is filled with housework, but Hansruedi also finds time to finally get out his fishing rod. Unfortunately his efforts are not crowned with success and so we have the salmon we bought for dinner.
The camera and video camera are prepared for northern lights photography and also tested a bit.
So we would be ready!!
Long story short - the clouds did not clear as promised.
We couldn't see the Northern Lights!

Well, what happens next? One thing is clear: we want to leave the Lofoten Islands today. Wind speeds of up to 90 km/h are forecast, along with a lot of rain. There is no improvement in the weather in sight.
In Bjerkvik we come across the E6 again. Here you can turn south and shortly before Narvik take the E10 east towards Sweden, where the weather is generally said to be a bit better.
You can also turn north and turn east at Skjbotn (or is it now called Nordkjosbotn?) and drive on the E8 towards Finland and Sweden.
We decide to head north and give the weather another chance to improve.
The next one or two days will show in which direction our journey will continue.
We are excited ourselves, and you?
