The CARTHAGO chapter

Shower tray:

At the end of July 2023 our shower tray was replaced at CCC-Arbon.

Good job !!

Without shower tray

Heizlüfter Ecomat Select:

The fan heater has served us well for 7 years (it's not exactly cheap either)

But this spring the thermostat refused to turn off the heating.

Throw it away? Too bad! Google it! The solution?

Conclusion Carthago T 143 after 64'000 km

Fiat with ALKO chassis:

The diesel consumption with the 140 HP engine after 64,220 km is around 9.50 liters per 100 km. Around 0.25 liters less than at the beginning.

Adblue consumption quite moderate at 0.26 liters per 100 km fairly constant as at the beginning

Oil consumption per 25,000 km approx. 4 liters

Refrigerator:

The cooling is very dependent on the wind. I have installed two new fans.

Heating:

The driver's cab is better heated with the heating hoses I extended.

Shower:

Yes, we always use the toilet in our vehicle!

Yes, we use the shower in our vehicle (also because of Corona / hygiene) very often!

Yes and that is why we chose a premium vehicle from Carthago!

We are satisfied with the vehicle. You can also see it on our homepage womo-virus.ch

Until we discovered the first small cracks in May 2022. Without further ado, with superglue

fixed. Forgot about the whole thing because it was OK so far.

Now in September the big cracks.

I have now taken the trouble to remove the drain and to clean the interior of the shower as far as possible.

possible examined!

This construction is bound to crack sooner or later.

(When using the toilet and shower) The drain is completely hanging in the air.

This is a serious DEFECTIVE!

I haven't checked the rear drain yet.

Replacing the tub is one thing (approx. 2000.00 Fr.) the next one holds with this construction

not longer than 2-3 years!

In this case, I am counting on Carthage’s full goodwill

Malfunction:

No serious problems on the 26,768 km and 171 overnight stays in 2022

(except the shower tray)

SuperSense:

Water tank level measurement Link to manufacturer

With SuperSense, fill levels can be measured quickly and with liter accuracy.

First you have to drill a hole in the tank.

(Certain inhibitions are already there.)

Connect to 12 volt power supply and then!!

For a tank with a uniform shape, calibration is very easy.

With an irregular shape (angled) like ours, this is a bit more complicated. But the app helps you a lot.

For a 140 litre tank, fill 5 x 28 litres of water.

On the app, keep pressing OK after 28 liters.

That's it.

I pumped water out of the tank (measured it) and compared it with the display. Correct /- 1 liter.

If the vehicle is at a very steep angle, the measurement is no longer accurate, but as soon as you are more or less level again, everything is correct again.

My only concern at the moment is transferring the data to a second phone or tablet!

You can often read about it in the forum !!! It has now caught up with us too

Foiling:

Not very nice! The foil is coming off on both sides.

This year at the annual inspection 2023 it was made beautiful again :-)

Oyster Connect:

Had very good experiences in France. Even when the vehicle was completely closed (blackout blinds) the reception was always very good.

Heat distribution:

In order to better direct the warm air into the driver's cab, I extended the heater hoses.

Pressure equalization vessel:

When you open the tap, water flows immediately, evenly and quietly, without splashing or pulsing. This makes water extraction more comfortable, extends the life of the pump, shortens the on and off time, and saves battery power.

Gas tank bottles:

In 2014 we had the gas tank bottles installed in our Chnuschti (Hymer).

Always had good experiences. Never had any problems at any petrol stations, whether in Italy, Portugal, Greece, Sweden, Spain, Denmark or Norway.

That's why we removed the bottles and installed them in our Pfüdi (Carthago).

Conclusion Carthago T 143 after 19'220 km

Fiat with ALKO chassis:

Very satisfied with the chassis.

The diesel consumption after 19,220 km is approx. 9.73 liters per 100 km.

Adblue consumption quite moderate at 0.26 liters per 100 km

Refrigerator:

The cooling is very dependent on crosswinds.

The driver's cab is poorly heated.

Conclusion Carthago T 143 after 7000 km

Fiat with ALKO chassis:

The driving noise is much lower than that of the old Fiat and the original chassis.

However, the parked vehicle sways a little more when walking around.

The diesel consumption with the 140 HP engine after 7000 km is approx. 9.8 liters per 100 km.

The predecessor had 160 hp and 8.8 liters.

Adblue consumption quite moderate at 0.27 liters per 100 km

Refrigerator:

Not yet completely convinced by the cooling performance in summer.

Gas burner not exactly under the fireplace. Needs to be discussed with Dometic.

Heating:

I think the cab is poorly heated.

Solution: Install flexible hoses in winter. I will post my solution on the internet.

Lighting:

Here, Carthago has literally hit the nail on the head!

Without “sunglasses” it was too bright in the living area and in the bow in the evening and at night.

I had dimmers installed in the living area and bow later. It's very good now.

But it cost Fr. 750.00!

The bedroom is also bright enough. We turned off the power to two spotlights. The kitchen is OK.

Bathroom could be a bit brighter.

Bad:

There is more than enough storage space. The toilet is unusually high.

Short legs have trouble reaching the floor. No shower gel shelf available.

The solution can be seen at www.womo-virus.ch.

Shower is big enough. The generally smaller bathroom in the

Compared to its predecessor, we have already gotten used to it.

Living room:

Spacious. Table big enough for 2 people. Comfortable L-shaped seating. Side seat

next to the entrance door is used a lot by us.

Rear light carrier:

When it rains, water drips onto the rear light bracket! Very unpleasant, especially at night!!!

Garage:

Enough space. Nothing negative to report.

Doppelboden:

Very practical for charging, lots of space

SOG:

(WC cassette ventilation) Ventilation via the roof is the best solution for

c-tourer T 143 LE Pictures from Carthago

Since our "Chnuschti" already has 130,000 km on the clock (in 5 1/2 years, that is), we decided to get a new, more modern and shorter vehicle. A real Pfüdi.

So is his name: M. Pfüdi

M stands for Modern or Maxi (it has a Maxi chassis) or simply for Merz.

The contract was signed on December 4, 2019. We also ordered three or four modifications:

- Solar MT 140 FL

- Larger roof window above seating group Heki 3 plus

- Midi Heki in the sleeping area

- Satellite external socket

Finally the manufacturer was able to provide all the necessary papers.

(The declaration of conformity is a written confirmation at the end of a conformity assessment, with which the person responsible (e.g. manufacturer, dealer) for a product, the provision of a service or an organization (e.g. testing laboratory, operator of a quality management system) bindingly declares and confirms that the object (product, service, body, QMS) has the properties specified in the declaration.)

Quote Wikipedia.

Without these documents from the manufacturers Carthago, Fiat and AL-KO, the vehicle cannot be put into circulation.

Now on March 3rd, 2020 we can pick up the "good piece" from the dealer in Arbon.

Then the wait is over and things really get started:

- Furnish kitchen, bathroom and bedroom

- Set up boxes

- Replace living area battery

- Have our gas tank bottles reinstalled

- Install inverter

- Install the flexible solar module in the garage (for transport)

- Secure chairs and tables in their places

- Install e-bike mount

- Fit winter tires

- Test sun sails (instead of an awning)

We will report here on the progress of the installations!

When all this is done, we are ready for our first little trip (about 4 - 6 weeks) to the south.

Then follows our Russia trip from 18.07.2020 - 19.08.2020 and finally via Norway from Kirkenes

back home.

As usual, we will report on our travels here.

One of the first works:

We discovered that the rear cover on the passenger console is missing!

The dealer says it can't be installed because the floor is constructed differently than on the driver's side.:'-)

Rotating console without rear cover. You really can't mount an original cover here!! See below

Looks like the technician went to lunch and then

he continued working at another location! But if that is the only design flaw and

The only problem is that we're extremely lucky! So keep your fingers crossed for us!

We will construct our own cover and then deliver this solution to Carthago
