The Rennsteig is a 170 km long ridge path and a historic border path in the Thuringian Forest.
It is the oldest and, with around 100,000 hikers annually, the most popular long-distance hiking trail in Germany. Source: Wikipedia
We drive our Pfüdi up the big Inselberg (funny name for a "mountain")
We actually like the clouds better than the view. But it was interesting nonetheless.
The parking space just outside Kleinschmalkalden is brand new - so new that almost no one knows about it. Luckily!
The place is well laid out and what we particularly appreciate - only low lamps were installed for lighting. After all, the paths should be illuminated and not the bedroom!
We found a promising parking spot in Heldra, so let's go there.
The route takes us 71 kilometers to the northwest.
Beautiful alley in Treffurt
Two journeymen at the roadside
We are not disappointed. The parking space is run by locals as a voluntary worker. The reception is warm. Without electricity and toilet use it only costs 5 euros. We are right on the Werra.
And the best thing is - it is not crowded.
On the large meadow, three motorhomes are scattered on one side and at the other end, three canoe teams have pitched their tents.
We slowly chug south again.
Bad Robach is our random destination for today.
We enjoy our lunch with a view of the bathing spa guests.
As is usually the case on this trip, the calories consumed are immediately burned off again on a bike ride.
Today we continue southwest.
So we actually travel with Zielversuch Kitzingen.
The density of motorhomes has increased significantly.
Even at the parking lot in Dettelbach, all the spots directly on the Main are of course occupied and it is also very dusty here.
We suspect that Kitzingen will almost certainly no longer have any space available with a view of the Main.
So we end up at the parking spot in Mainstockheim. Of course not by the Main, but the meadow we chose offers lots of space and isn't dusty either. We're staying!
Dettelbach is then our stop for lunch, of course with the e-bikes.
There are just days when things don't go quite as you imagined.
Actually, our chosen destination for today was a parking space in Öhringen. But the space is at a roundabout in the middle of an industrial area, and trucks drive past almost every second.
Not for us!
So we end up in Bad Buchau after about 220 kilometers. Today we decide to stay at the place outside by the Federsee. It is hardly occupied and does not have any lights.
We even find a restaurant that is open. The pizza isn't quite what we wanted, but it was good.
While Hansruedi explores the Federsee and Bad Buchau from above with the drone, I walk along the wooden walkway through the reeds out to the lake.
Our route today:
Bad Buchau - somewhere in the Zurich Oberland
In between: lots and lots of traffic and lots of congestion.
In the end, we were able to do everything we had planned. We stopped by our dealer in Arbon because we had to pick something up. We also had some money left over at Campingprofi in Urdorf, as well as at the Eskimo factory shop in Turbenthal.
Finally, we enjoyed the peace and quiet in our secret spot!
After a lazy morning we decided to drive to the Pizolbahn near Bad Ragaz.
For once it was not the e-bikes that were used but the "hiking boots".
This path was a perfect fit for us.
Great prospects!
Since the ticket offices were already open, we naturally asked whether we could spend the night there.
One night - that's no problem was the friendly answer.
On Sunday, after a leisurely and extensive breakfast, we went home.
Our entire tour of the last three weeks.
