"After the rain, the sun shines" - for once it's the other way around. After yesterday's sunny Sunday, a small rain front is reaching us this early afternoon. There are worse things!
We're not in a hurry. Shower, tidy up, have breakfast, dispose of rubbish and fill up with fresh water and then we're finally off. We have to go shopping at the ICA, but we're missing a few things. Bread, vegetables, fruit, cheese, some meat, chocolate, kitchen paper, etc. etc.
Then the first visit to a Systembolaget. Only in these shops can you buy wine in Sweden. And look, there is the rosé from Portugal on the shelf - instead of 3 euros, as in Portugal, it costs the equivalent of 7 euros here. Here it costs about 5.60 CHF. The wine has clearly become cheaper in Sweden.
We quickly reached our goal for today. Once again we arrived just before 12 o'clock.
We know the parking space in Nogersund from our first long trip to Scandinavia in 2015. Back then, on May 10th, there were three of us here with a huge distance between us. Today, by the evening, there were 18 motorhomes and the space is currently being expanded. The photos are from midday, but even in the evening the nearest neighbor is at a comfortable distance. Perfect.
The day is good for office work. A credit card statement needs to be checked, an invoice has arrived by email and Hansruedi is still doing the travel accounting.
But the weather doesn't stop us from exploring Nogersund. There is always something to see, especially in the harbor.
As we all know, there is no such thing as bad weather and our clothing is also suitable for rain.
The rain pants weren't even necessary.

"After the rain the sun shines" - 100% true today - what a day!
We continue eastwards and out to the island of Hasslö. The archipelago is beautiful and perfect for hiking. We are not convinced by the overnight accommodation options and we are on the road very early today, so we continue on...
... once again eastwards and out into the archipelago again. We hop, no, we drive from island to island and finally land on the island of Tjurkö. At exactly midday we arrive at the small Hägnan campsite. It is the only one on the island. The perfect place was waiting for us.
We ride our e-bikes to the sight of Tjurkö and walk fascinated through a piece of old
History of Sweden.
But the archipelago in front of our campsite also has a magical attraction for us. They also want to be explored.
We enjoy dinner at our little dream spot to the fullest.
Unfortunately, a small wall of clouds is moving in front of the sun. There won't be a spectacular sunset. But what the heck, the day was beautiful anyway.

The sun rises very early here in Sweden. Shortly after 5 a.m. our Pfüdi is in the first rays of sunshine. So we get up early too. Today we are travelling a little further east again.
In Jaömjö we stock up on supplies at the ICA and then head south - Torhamn is our destination. The parking space in the harbor convinces us, so we stay even though it is not even 12 o'clock yet.
Our e-bikes are being used again today. The Torhamns udde nature reserve is a few kilometers away and you can easily explore it by bike. We like it and the cows and sheep seem to too.
It's 20 interesting kilometers to the end. With all the stops, it takes quite a long time.
Satisfied, we enjoy the rest of the day in the harbor.

First a little anecdote about yesterday:
Back from our bike trip to the nature reserve, there is a Swedish motorhome to our left. An elderly couple with a dog. We greet each other in a friendly manner. At some point the two of them are in the motorhome and you can clearly hear that the TV or radio is on. I, Heidi, can even hear it in our motorhome. Later they walk away with their dog. When they get back they get in and immediately we hear music again. The two of them are probably a bit hard of hearing. We are cooking, enjoying our dinner and the volume control is turned up right next door. No joke, but from around 6.30 p.m. we are almost in a disco! A mixture of Swedish folk and country music is playing over to us. Hmm, after two hours it's starting to get boring, but we hold out until 10 p.m. sharp. I, Heidi in particular, have no chance of sleeping. So we get out and look into the front of the motorhome next door. The two of them are sitting in the driver's seat and reading. We make ourselves known, they come to the door and since they don't speak English, we make it clear to them with gestures and hand signals that we would like to sleep. They had no idea that their music was at disco volume. The silence that followed was fantastic!
But now to today. We are travelling on to the island of Öland. Pentecost is fast approaching and June 6th is a national holiday. So today we are doing some Pentecost shopping.
The parking space in Karehamn has been greatly enlarged, but once again we find a wonderful corner.
There is a fine fish shop in the harbor, which we visit and buy our lunch.
We don't do much today. Enjoy the sun, take a walk on the beach and simply explore the area. The meadow area fills up by the evening but we are in the perfect spot for us.
At some campsites the plot is smaller!

Our plan for today was actually to stay at the campsite and go on an e-bike tour.
Contrary to the forecast, it is still very cloudy in the morning and there is already a strong wind blowing. We have no desire to get on the bikes.
So we abandon our plan and drive further to the north of the island. On the way we look at two parking spaces. At around 10.30 a.m. there is a motorhome in each of them.
We settled on the third one, we really liked it here. Especially since we got the place with the most beautiful and largest "front garden".
The sun peeks through the clouds and we decide to go on foot today.
Our hike takes us to and into the Trollskogen nature reserve. The large loop in the park is very beautiful and interesting.
Back at our Pfüdi, it was 14.8 km. No wonder we were tired.
The sun clears away the clouds and we can see as far as the Lange Erik lighthouse.
Hamburger à la Hansruedi, a tomato salad, baguette and a glass of wine and the wonderful light of the north.
We are very satisfied with the day and will later fall into bed tired and happy.

The south of Öland is our destination today. Many mills line our path.
Our bike tour first takes us to Eketorp Castle. We are surprised that everything is still closed here. You can go into the complex, but the museum and the café at the entrance are still closed.
We continue to Long Jan. Here the season has actually started. The café, shop, museum and even the lighthouse are open.
You can only climb the lighthouse on the hour. We're right on the hour and we don't want to wait that long.
In Grönhögen we then pay a visit to the mill restaurant. They say they serve very good pizza here. Even the harbor master raves about it. So we have dinner at 4 p.m. and the pizza is really excellent.
The parking space in Grönhögen has been moved slightly and redesigned. In the last few days we have mostly been lucky and have found the greenest corner of the sites. It is the same today. We are in the green corner of the gravel site.
A short summary of Öland over the Pentecost weekend:
Öland offers a lot of pitches in different price categories (including many campsites, but we didn't look at them or use them). Motorhome travellers are usually on the move on this island. This means that the pitches empty out in the morning and if you arrive around lunchtime you have a large selection of free pitches.
The SuperRally also took place here over the Whitsun weekend. An annual meeting of Harleys in particular, which takes place in a different country every year. We saw hundreds. Every day they trundled leisurely across the island. We had a relaxed Whitsun weekend. We really like Öland.
Next week we're heading to new shores!
