Tomorrow 17 °C

Noon 25°C

Evening 22 °C

Yes, it's high season and we've had enough of it. Today the weather is really nice and so we're just going to drive to Saint-Marie-de-la-Mer. There are 4 parking spaces and 2 camping sites. There will be a spot for us somewhere.

Well, we actually find a free corner on the parking space we know, by the evening it is packed and it has actually been enlarged a bit.

The parking space on the other side of the town has to make way for cars during the high season.

Yes, there isn’t much going on at the campsites either.

It is already after 11.30pm and suddenly a number of motor homes and buses arrive, almost desperately looking for a place to park. They have probably all been "driven away" by the police somewhere.

On our short bike ride we also see the crowded streets. Masks are actually compulsory here, but some people comply. The police are also patrolling, but what can they do against this mass? We watch the whole thing from a distance, and a photo is a must. Luckily we have already strolled through Saint-Marie-de-la-Mer in peace and with plenty of space.

It is definitely time for us to head home

Our decision has been made! That's it - we're on our way home.

Today we want to get at least as far north as Lyon and have simply chosen a small parking spot.

We're already there at 2 p.m. The municipality has set up 5 parking spaces next to the sports facilities. Really nice, the spaces are gravelled and each one has its own green strip.

We left the sun in the South of France, it almost looks like rain.

We decide to drive further. Bonlieu - we know the Camping l'Abbaye there - and more importantly, the restaurant Au Chalet. We've had excellent meals there several times. Our new destination.

We arrive at the site shortly after 4:30 p.m. Oh dear, the owners have changed and the restaurant is no longer open. The campsite itself is really not great. We don't feel like staying.

Next idea - Lac de Joux - there are now parking spaces there. Let's just travel to Switzerland today.

Our GPS reports a road closure and chooses an alternative route. OK, let's do it. On the way we look at one or two places to stay overnight and then arrive at Lac de Joux at around 6 p.m. There was no one to be seen anywhere near the border crossing. The parking space is very close to the road. There isn't much space, but it would be enough for us. But the meadow is furrowed and muddy - no, we don't want that either.

Last idea - Lac des Taillères - this place is paved! The quickest way there is through France. So we had to go out and back in again - nobody was interested.

We arrived at our destination shortly before 7 p.m. There was plenty of space. This is where we ended our long day of driving. A quick pasta dish, tomato salad with mozzarella and a glass (or two, three) of wine and we were happy with the whole world.

Yesterday was also a bit tiring so we slept in today.

Urgent, non-postponable office work needs to be done. Then a little shopping, as the bread is missing again.

On the way we treat ourselves to a delicious lunch in a beautiful country inn and arrive at our favorite campsite, Blueberry Hill, at around 3 p.m.

It's starting to rain. So we have time - the homepage should also be updated.

We revel in the memories of the last eight weeks. We review everything and slowly get ready to come home.

Today we have to get up earlier again. Actually we are only going to Flims. But on the way we stop in Villmergen to see Marie and Hanspeter. We haven't seen each other for almost 1 1/2 years. Phone and WhatsApp were our connections. Now all four of us are vaccinated and enjoy being together and chatting.

Thank you very much for the delicious lunch!

Yes, and then we tackle the last few kilometers, fill up our gas tank in Horgen and at around 5 p.m. we park our Pfüdi in the garage forecourt.

We have covered 8,294 kilometers and were on the road for exactly 8 weeks. The most important thing is that we arrived home safe and sound.

We were able to enjoy wonderful, sometimes very warm summer weather almost the whole time. We took off our long trousers on the second day of the trip and put them back on on the second to last day of the trip! Since we only wanted to travel if we were vaccinated, we couldn't start until June 10th. We've never been traveling in the south this late. In fact, we're usually back home by then. Well, we were prepared from the start for the high season to start around the beginning of July. But towards the end of July, the peak season came - time to slowly head home.

We have always heard and read about how wet the summer is in Switzerland. And you can see that beautifully on our terrace. No one waters our plants. They either survive our absence or they don't. It's unbelievable - even our herbs survived the 8 weeks! We really didn't expect that! And our cherry laurel, which has been more yellow than green for years, is even dark green!

After the trip is always before the trip. Our next trip? When? Where?

Let's put it this way - thanks to Corona, everything is still open!

Day route: Dürrenroth, Blueberry Hill - Flims

Distance: 240 km

Average consumption: 8.7 liters

Average speed 65 km/h

Travel time: 3 hours 39 minutes
