We were here in spring 2017. Today we experience a completely different Morella.

The parking space is not even half as full.

Morella - World Heritage Site - almost completely without tourists.

Half of the shops and half of the restaurants are closed. A few tourists are strolling through the town. A lonely group of bus tourists are listening to a guided tour. This time we also manage to explore the castle. Where in May 2017 there were masses of tourists walking around, today there are very few people strolling around.

But the view of Morella from the parking space is still just as fantastic.

The start of the day in Morella is quite grey. It even drizzles at times. The heavy rain during the night has done our Pfüdi good - he already looks much cleaner. We are in no hurry and it is already 11 o'clock before we are finally ready to go. We feed our GPS with our destination for the day by the sea - Alcossebre.

I don't really like the suggested and most direct route, and we've already driven part of it. I quickly discover an interesting alternative route on the map and we change the GPS.

Magnificent landscapes, lots of curves and, to top it all off, the wonderful town of Ares del Maestrat, which I discovered thanks to our map on the tablet.

Hansruedi spontaneously puts on his indicator and drives the kilometer to the town entrance. Then we'll be able to turn around. Great, not only can we turn around, we can even park.

So we unexpectedly find ourselves taking a wonderful walk through this beautiful little town. We are the only tourists!

Satisfied, we finally reach the Playa Tropicana campsite and are amazed at how empty it is. OK, it's not exactly cheap here. But we stay one night and after a late breakfast, we treat ourselves to a late lunch in the nearby restaurant. We take a digestive walk along the coast.

Another thoroughly successful day.

Evening 23 °C

The holiday weekend was ushered in at midnight with rockets and firecrackers. Fortunately, after a few minutes the haunting was over and the rest of the night was absolutely quiet.

We start this wonderful morning with a walk. After a long shower and breakfast, we leave this very expensive place.

We are heading for a small campsite inland near Denia. A cozy spot with a great view of the sea is promised and is highly praised by many people.

On the way we also notice that all the shops are closed today. OK, but we don't have to starve.

Heavy traffic forces us to take the toll-free motorway. The roads near the coast are congested in many places.

The view from the campsite is really magnificent, but there are exactly two plots left free. Two without a single ray of sunshine - well, it's not that hot, you can tolerate a few rays of sunshine.

So back to the coast. There are plenty of campsites there. We already went to Camping Olé in 2018 and it wasn't bad. There are still a few more than two free sites here. Obviously not by the sea, so we prefer to park on a plot as far back as possible.

Tomorrow 18°C

Noon 26°C

Evening 26 °C

When we arrived at the campsite yesterday, we only had about 10 pitches to choose from, all the others would be taken over the weekend. Oops, we decided on a quiet spot at the back.

Today we ride our e-bikes to Denia and marvel at the excesses of apartment buildings on the coast.

But we finally discover the beautiful center of Denia. After a 3-course meal, we drive back, stop for a little shopping at Consum and are excited to see how many people have already arrived at the square. Yes, you can almost count them on one hand. We quickly put our shopping in the fridge and head off on our bikes towards Oliva.

On the way we visit two campsites that are very busy and firmly in Spanish hands. The holiday weekend really did attract a lot of people to the sea. Shortly after 5 p.m. we are back and are still looking for the many people who are supposed to have arrived. We don't really understand this approach. Dozens of pitches, even whole rows, are empty. We would have liked to have chosen a different place, but what the heck, we're moving on tomorrow.

As we have often done on this trip, we have only just decided roughly what tomorrow will be like - let's see where we end up.

We don't get very far today. We decide to take a look at Javea. First we look for a Mercadona. Our fridge is completely empty and tomorrow is Sunday and all the shops will be closed again. It's crazy what we get for 97 euros. 6 bottles of wine, mineral water, beef, cheese, vegetables, fruit, etc.

We spontaneously drive to Camping Javea - there are free pitches, ACSI still applies here too and so we stay.

We chug towards the harbor on our e-bikes, enjoy a delicious lunch almost directly by the sea and then discover the small, beautiful old town of Javea.

If you're going to have skyscrapers, then at least have interesting architecture

Sunday and holiday weekend - all of Spain is on the move. We decide against an e-bike tour, the streets are too busy for us.

We move on and drive our dog to Cabo del Nau. Now in the morning we find a parking space and can enjoy the view. On the coastal road we drive past what must be thousands of magnificent villas to Calpe. Five years ago we were simply horrified by this place. Today we give it a chance and set up camp near the center. After a short siesta we start our exploration tour with the e-bikes and lo and behold, we find beautiful places and interesting architecture.

The parking space empties out considerably by the evening. The holiday weekend is history. Too bad for the Spaniards - but that's fine with us.
